Types of massages at ncognito:

Swedish

The most common type of massage therapy. The massage therapist utilizes long smooth strokes, kneading and circular movements on superficial layers of muscle. Swedish massage can be very relaxing and gentle.

Trigger Point Therapy

A bodywork technique that involves the applying of pressure to hypertensive muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in various parts of the body. Trigger points are also referred to as muscle knots. The purpose of trigger point therapy is to eliminate pain and to re-educate the muscles into pain-free habits. After several treatments, the swelling and stiffness of neuromuscular pain is reduced, range of motion is increased, tension is relieved, and circulation, flexibility and coordination are improved.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a very effective hands-on technique that provides sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. The theory of myofascial release requires an understanding of the fascial system (or connective tissue). The fascia is a specialized system of the body that has an appearance similar to a spider’s web or a sweater.

The most interesting aspect of the facial system is that it is not just a system of separate coverings. It is actually one structure that exists from head to foot without interruption. In this way you can begin to see that each part of the entire body is connected to every other part by the fascia, like the yarn in a sweater.

Shiatsu

A form of Japanese bodywork that uses localized finger pressure in a rhythmic sequence on acupuncture meridians. Each point is held for a few seconds to improve the flow of energy and help the body regain balance. Shiatsu can be relaxing yet the pressure is firm, and there is usually no soreness afterwards.

Sports Massage

Specifically designed for people who are involved in physical activity. The focus is not on relaxation but on preventing and treating injury and enhancing athletic performance. It also helps loosen muscles and increase flexibility. A combination of techniques are used with an integration of stretching. Sports massage is not only meant for professional athletes but also for people who are active and work out often.

Reflexology

Sometimes called foot massage, reflexology is more than a simple foot massage. It involves applying pressure to certain points on the foot that correspond to organs and systems in the body. Reflexology can be very relaxing, especially for people who stand on their feet all day.

Pre-natal

Massage therapists who are certified in pregnancy massage know the proper way to position and support the woman’s body, as well as how to modify techniques during the massage. Used to reduce stress, decrease swelling, relieve aches & pains, and reduce anxiety and depression. Prenatal massage can be very relaxing to expectant mothers.
